Christmas is one of the best holidays of the year. December is a busy and hectic month for preparation and festivity. As early as October, some people start designing decorations at home and buying gifts for Christmas celebration. Some individuals and families even go for a Christmas vacation celebrating the season in another country.
In Scandinavia, the festival is uniquely celebrated by constructing Christmas markets. The Christmas markets are attractions visited by thousands of tourists a year. It opens in November and ends after Christmas Eve. Christmas is definitely fun with shopping local Scandinavia handicrafts, gifts, food, and beverages.
The Copenhagen Christmas Market
This market is located in Copenhagen, Denmark. Tivoli, the oldest amusement park found in Europe, should be included in your priority list to visit. The Tivoli Gardens is bombarded with colorful, illuminating lights creating a wonderland to the amusement park. There are about 60 establishments which sell wine, porcelains, and wooden pixies. Concerts and ballet performances are also held for your family to enjoy.
Decorations and thousand lights are designed in Liseberg Amusement Park located in Gothenberg, Sweden. A Christmas market is held with added entertainment like ice skating and amusement rides for visitors to experience. The stores sell traditional crafts and knitwear while restaurants serve Swedish buffet with sausages, meatballs, and other traditional cuisine.
The Christmas Market in Stockhom, Sweden usually takes place in Stortorget Square located in one of the oldest town Gamla Stan. Traditional handicrafts, hot spicy wine, and local Swedish delicacies are sold in the market. Drottninggatan, Stockholm’s longest pedestrian, is designed with Christmas lights and remarkable decorations. You can take pictures and view the beautiful scene while walking. Another Christmas Market found in Stockholm is Skansen on Djurgarden Island best for those who love the old- fashioned way.
Santa Clause Village, Lapland is another place you should stopover. The place is special because it is where the original Santa Clause is seen. The Santa Clause Chamber is where the children can personally meet Santa Clause. Santa Clause has his own post office which accepts thousands of letters from kids in different countries annually. Major attractions include the Arctic Circle Husky Park and Santa Park.
The Helsinki Esplanade Park in Finland is filled with 120 stores in the opening of the St. Thomas Christmas Market. The market is popular for its selection of goods like the mulled wine, grilled sausages, and luscious pastries. Artifacts like animal fur, sledges, and skis are also witnessed in the event.
